MEET THE ARTIST:
DAVID OATES

I’ve always loved art and drawing, especially with a ball point pen. My people, kept telling me I should try tattooing, so eventually I picked up a machine and started tattooing family and close friends. For a long time it was just a side hobby while I worked in construction and remodeling. I never imagined it would become anything more than that.

A few years ago, I was offered a spot as a new artist in a local walk-in shop. That opportunity changed everything. I’ve spent the last two years putting in the work to learn, improve, and push myself with every piece. Now I’m stepping into my own studio, Horse Head Tattoo, where I can continue to hone my craft and focus on creating high-quality work while giving my clients a positive experience.

My specialties are black and gray neo-traditional with multiple line weights, fine line work, and elements of realism. I’m moving toward mostly appointment-based sessions, while still keeping a little space open for walk-ins when I can. No matter how you book, you’ll get clean and professional work, a relaxed environment, and art you’ll be proud to wear for life.​

Outside the studio, I’m a husband and dad to three sweet kiddos. If I’m not drawing or tattooing, you’ll probably find me on a court or a field—basketball, disc golf, volleyball, softball, you name it.  Music’s a big part of my life too; I love to jam and play on the worship team at our church.
